Dark Shadows Review

The film is based on the 1960s soap opera by the same name. The story revolves around  Barnabas Collins (Johnny Deep).  Barnabas  is from one of the privileged family in the small town of Collinsport, Maine.  In the town of  Collinsport Barnabas can have any woman he wants. Because, he comes from a wealthy and powerful family who runs the local fishing catering business. Barnabas falls in love with his beloved. Unknown to Barnabas he has spurned an old lover. The old lover turns out to be a local witch (Eva Green). The witch is Angelique Bouchard a servant at the Collins mansion . Angelique has love to Barnabas from a young age. Angelique feels that she has been betrayed by Barnabas. So she puts a curse on him. The curse she places on Barnabas turns him from a human into a vampire. Almost being buried for two centuries Barnabas wakes up in the 1970s through world he does not know or understand this new world. His beloved Collins has following into disrepair. Barnabas feels he must return the good name of Collins.
When it comes to the acting in this film Johnny Depp does give a good trail of a vampire. I really love how the way he spoke to the film. I really like the way he commanded the old English language. There are a well-known cast of actors in this film. You have  Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) the head of the family. Her character is like the major arc of the family until Barnabas shows up. There is also Helen Bonham Carter  Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helen Bonham Carter) and alcoholic therapists is searching for something that can slow down or stop her declining age. But, you cannot forget Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz) as a teenager with a lot of angst. They do have a lot of comedy at the expense of Barnabas and being out of his element.
The director Tim Burton has a particular style of directing.  Tim Burton's style is very dark and brooding some people even call it EMO. This is not the first time that Johnny Depp and Tim Burton have worked together on the film. This is more like their eighth time working together on it film. The film did have somewhat of flow to it. There is no surprise that Tim Burton got a good performance from Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins. There is a lot of nice visual effects in the movie that were used to seeing from Tim Burton.
When it comes to the music in the movie. The music really does help move along the filling of the 70s. The a lot of classic songs playing throughout the movie. In the film you have Alice Cooper playing yourselves. He did add to the 70s feel with his performance.

So in conclusion if you would like to see a dark tragic love story see  "Dark Shadows".
